Ronald Lotempio, a Buffalo State senior dual electrical engineering technology major (electronics and smart grid), was recently featured on Spectrum News 1 for his presence at the Buffalo Science Museum’s “Student Spark Day,” the first event of its Engineers Week programming.
The article and video coverage, “Buffalo Museum of Science highlights impact of engineers,” by Halena Sepulveda, focused on the February 16 event, which allowed museum visitors to meet local engineering students and learn about educational opportunities and the field of engineering.
The students brought different projects to the event to share with attendees. Lotempio brought a 3D printer “to show what additive manufacturing looks like,” he said. “A 3D printer is useful for prototyping and making different designs.”
Lotempio said that technology has always been his passion. “As a child, I liked to take apart things and see how they [worked],” he said, “so electrical engineering just made sense for me.”
Engineers Week, founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers. The Buffalo Museum of Science’s themed programming continues through February 22.
“Engineers have really built the world around us,” Lotempio said. “Everything that we use in our day-to-day lives has been engineered by somebody. There’s so much to learn about [and] so much to explore.”
