Submit the online application.
Students can apply to Buffalo State through the SUNY Application or the Common Application. They only need to submit ONE application – submitting more than one application will cause issues with the review of their application.
** If your student wants to be considered for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), they must indicate this on their application.

Submit official high school transcripts.
Students must request that their high school submit their official transcript directly to us for review of their application. High schools can submit transcripts electronically (preferred) or by mail.

Submit supplemental materials (if requested).
Additional materials may be requested from students if their application needs to go through additional review. Students will be notified of requested items in their applicant portal and by e-mail.
EOP Applicants: All eligible students who have applied for EOP consideration must submit documentation as proof of financial eligibility. For more information about EOP requirements, please visit our website.

Submit official college transcripts.
Students must submit official transcripts for ALL higher education institutions that they enrolled at after completing high school. All transcripts must come directly from the institution and can be sent electronically (preferred) or by mail.

EOP Applicants: Proof of prior enrollment in EOP or other opportunity programs is required for enrollment in EOP at Buffalo State. Our Admissions Office will request this documentation and will notify applicants if any additional items are needed.

Submit proof of high school completion.
High school transcripts are not required for review of transfer applications, unless the student has less than 24 credit hours. Final High School or GED/TASC transcripts are required for all students upon enrollment.
Once we have received a student’s application, they will receive an e-mail with the subject line “Thank you for applying!” that provides instructions on how to set up their applicant portal. The applicant portal allows students to check the status of their application to see what documents have been received and what is still needed to complete their application.

Transfer admission is based on post-secondary academic performance and current space availability. A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 (4.0 scale) is necessary for consideration.
Some programs have additional requirements, such as a certain GPA, portfolio review, auditions, etc. Please review our undergraduate catalog for undergraduate program requirements.

YES! SUNY has temporarily suspended SAT/ACT testing requirements for students applying for admission to a SUNY bachelor's degree-granting college. Students may now decide whether or not to include their scores for admission consideration at each college to which they apply. Learn more about SUNY's test optional policy.
Yes – we accept advanced coursework taken in high school that meets our eligibility criteria. Proof of advanced coursework must be sent directly from accrediting institutions to be considered official.
AP Scores: A score of 3 or higher will earn college credit. Credits awarded may range from 3-6 credit hours. Scores can be requested through College Board using our CEEB code 2533. View our AP Equivalency Table (PDF).
IB Scores: A score of 4 or higher will earn college credit. Credits awarded may range from 3-4 credit hours and varies per course and level. Scores can be requested through the International Baccalaureate website. View our IB Equivalency Table (PDF).
